Music is an integral part of school life at Prior Park Prep; we believe it has a large part to play not only in educational progress but also in the social development and emotional health of our children.
Class music lessons are practically based and the music room is well stocked with class sets of djembe and ukuleles as well as keyboards, a samba band and classroom percussion. We regularly hold informal lunchtime concerts that cater for all - class music making, specialist ensembles and soloists.
All pupils are invited to join the Junior Choir (Years 3 - 5) or Senior Choir (Years 6 - 8) with auditions held for places in the Chapel Choir. The choirs are a large part of school celebrations and take part in both national and local community events.
The junior and senior school orchestras rehearse weekly, alongside guitar and drum groups and all ensemble music making is encouraged to support the diverse instrumental playing throughout the school.
Instrumental music making is well supported and children are given demonstrations by peripatetic music staff and "taster sessions" to help decide which instrument is for them. The Director of Music is also available to give any advice and support. Prior Park Prep currently offers tuition on piano, voice, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, electric and acoustic guitar, drums, trumpet and cornet. Students are entered for ABRSM, Trinity and other suitable examinations as well as being supported in their theoretical and aural development.
