Use of iPads, and the augmented reality App Aurasma, provided an opportunity to develop higher order thinking skills and redefine learning in Year 5 pupils’ English lessons.
In her English lessons on 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King, Mrs Paddock was inspired by the augmented reality based game, Pokémon Go' to use an augmented reality App Aurasma to develop higher order thinking skills of creating, analysing and evaluating. The book tells the story of a young boy, Barney, who accidentally falls into a quarry and meets a caveman called Stig. The pupils wrote a script and produced a short film which took the character Barney to their chosen scene from the past. The film generated using the iPad was then uploaded by the pupils to Aurasma.
The pupils then selected a distinctive image around the school site to act as a trigger. Once the image was recognised by the Aurasma app the film would be shown.
