This week four Year 8 boys took part in the annual UKMT maths challenge held at Royal Wootten Basset Academy. They faced four gruelling rounds of mathematical problems and puzzles to solve and were up against 18 other schools in the event.
The boys started slowly, perhaps due to nerves and the occasion, but got stronger as the day went along. There were four rounds of questions taking different formats from working together as one big group and working in pairs.
All four of the boys clearly enjoyed themselves and finished in quite a good position of 13th out of 19 schools. This is a decent result given that many of their opponents were from some much bigger schools and involved pupils from Year 9.
Throughout the day the boys behaved well and really tried very hard. Well done all of you!
