Educational visit

STEM Leaders Talk DNA

STEM Leaders ranging from ages 7 - 14 enjoyed listening to Dr Cath Green, leader of the Wellcome Trust Genetics Research team at Oxford University yesterday.

Dr Green talked about her work and career as a scientist and her current research into the effects of the sun on DNA, causes of skin cancer and the structure of the nucleus in cells.

The pupils had plenty of questions to put to Dr Green and they were very interested to hear about the Lego machine specially built to "comb" chromosomes.

Dr Green has been invited back to visit again and show the STEM leaders how to harvest DNA from bananas!

What a knowledgeable and enthusiastic set of pupils.
