Singing for residents in Wootton Bassett

Junior Choir rehearse every Thursday for an hour and is open to all students in Years 3 to 5. We play singing games and develop voice control and technique but mainly have fun singing. Our biggest and most eagerly anticipated event each year is a trip to the LG Arena in January where we sing alongside thousands of other children (6683 this year) in the Young Voices series of concerts.

Having just returned from our yearly trip to Birmingham we were pleased to be able to arrange another regular event - a trip to see the residents at Ridgeway House in Wootton Bassett. We have made it a tradition to visit the residents there for a concert and sing along and the choir are always warmly received by both residents and staff.

They are an appreciative audience to our youngest performers and it's a warm and friendly place to hone performance skills. We take along song sheets and sing hymns, traditional and well known pop songs as well as our own repertoire to give the audience a chance to air their lungs too.  This time we sang Over the Hills, a folk medley, and Stronger Together, a wonderful piece written by Gareth Malone for the Military Wives Choir. We sang Amazing Grace, Sing Hosanna and O When the Saints. We enjoyed solo performances from Neveah (piano), Sam (piano), Hannah (piano) and Hanka, who showed a developing touch and great control in her grade 3 prelude. Katherine and Savannah both sang beautifully.

With drinks and biscuits to finish - they do look after us - the choir always leave on a high with thanks and songs ringing in their ears.
