Prior Park Prep Girls win Gold medals at the National Catholic Prep & Junior Schools' Athletics Championship

Prior Park Prep school U12 girls, won gold medals this weekend at the Catholic Prep & Junior Schools' Athletics Championships. The event, held in at St Columba’s College in St Albans on Sunday 25 June, welcomed schools from across the country. The U12 team representing Prior Park Prep were Tyla, Georgia, Mia and Laila, who all gave great performances on the track and in the field.

On the track, Tyla won gold in the 100m, matching the 100m sprint record of 13.6 seconds, Hannah won the 800m, Georgia, took gold in the 1500m, with a staggering lead of around 50m, and the team won the relay, with a time of 59.7 seconds. This was just one point of a second off the record of 59.8 seconds! In field events, success continued. Tyla won the long jump with a distance of 4.65m, which broke the event record of 4.15m.

Hannah competed in the U14 javelin as there was no U12 category. This meant using a 500g rather than 400g javelin. Undeterred, Hannah won the javelin breaking the event record of 26.96m achieving a distance of 30.72m.

The boys’ team also had successes on the day, with Bernardo and Finn securing second places in the discus and ball throw.

It’s been wonderful to have a team of girls who have worked so well together. They’ve all progressed so well over the last three years. Sadly, this weekend was the last time that the girls they had the chance to compete together as Tyla and Mia move on to the next stage of their education. They all deserve a large pat on the back and we wish Tyla and Mia all the best in the future.

I loved representing Prior Park at the National Catholics for third time. This was my last time and I enjoyed it even more than previous years, because the U12 girls were so successful.
