On Tuesday Years 3 and 4 headed off early on a coach down to Salisbury to join over 10 other schools to hear the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra play in a special concert for children entitled 'Fairytale and Fantasy'.
The pupils were thrilled to have front row seats and were literally within touching distance of the leading orchestra in the South West - amazing!
They were made to feel very comfortable by all the staff and were given an insight into the music and some interesting orchestra facts by composer and youth music leader Mr James Redmond. The children behaved really well, particularly considering that the large majority of them had never been to an orchestral concert before, and they sang their hearts out with the orchestra in the song 'Fairytale and Fantasy' composed specifically for the occasion. Mrs Matthews was particularly pleased with their enthusiasm here as they'd only had one or two lessons to learn it!
Feedback from the children has ranged from 'they were so loud!' to 'it was brilliant!' and on to 'I loved it!' and remembering the occasion has brought smiles and excitement to their faces.
Mrs Matthews looks forward to an exciting term looking at the orchestra and instruments, brought to life so vividly by the BSO.
