Today we had the privilege of hosting two Rio Olympians at School. Emily Diamond, 4x100m relay bronze medallist and John Jackson, Ireland team hockey player. Both Emily and John talked about how they got into their respective sports, (Emily didn't actually start athletics training until she was 16 years old, after years spent playing tennis) and how they maintain their peak performance at elite level.
The main message that the children took away from the session was that they should try everything on offer to them, use all opportunities to get better at their sport (John talked about how, as a child, he would get up in the TV ad breaks and flip a hockey ball up the stairs of his house) and to never let the knock backs get the better of them because as PPC Director of Sport said, "there will always be knock backs along the way.
Maybe there was a future Olympian in the audience!
