Over the October half term, one Year 5 pupil, Harriet, visited Kusadasi, Turkey, to compete in the European Biathle Championships as part of Team GB.
With an exceptional performance, Harriet returned home with three European Gold medals and now holds the crown as the European Biathle Champion (Youth E age category). The first gold medal was claimed in the Biathle mixed relay (U11 age category) where Harriet competed with a fellow GB team member (a boy from Sherborne Prep school). The second gold was claimed in the individual Youth E (U11) girls race. Harriet ran and swam a very tactical race and came out of the swim and transition just behind a Hungarian girl. On the final 500m run, Harriet passed the Hungarian girl with around 250m to go and finished in first place, six seconds clear of second. There were 11 girls in the race, including, Turkish, Russians, Hungarians, Bulgarians and two other girls running for Team GB.
The Youth E GB girls team won the overall Team Gold medal – making it a third gold medal!
