Director of Music, Mrs Matthews, jumped at the chance for some free tickets and took some children to the Colston Hall in Bristol on Wednesday to see the BBC's 10 Pieces performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
The audience were dazzled by the brilliance of the performers, from the attention grabbing Toccata and Fugue by Bach, to the savage Scherzo of Shostakovich's 10th Symphony. Our young musicians were particularly grabbed by the soloists - we heard an extract from Handel's Trumpet Concerto and the Lark Ascending - and the lead violinist in particular mesmerised and enchanted everybody.
Another hit was the DJ brought in to play Prokofiev's Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra and who had also created a new piece from samples he took of the audience singing Verdi's Dies Irae.
It was a wonderful opportunity for young people to engage in the world of classical music.
