Sport

Children at Prior Park benefit from some of the best sports facilities on offer locally including a large multi-functional sports hall, three rugby pitches, four football pitches, two cricket squares, athletics facilities, full sized all-weather astro and an onsite 25m swimming pool.

All pupils participate in sport through Physical Education and Games lessons, as well as through our extensive after school clubs and sport specific holiday camps. 

Team Games

All pupils from Year 1 enjoy purposeful games lessons taught by qualified games specialists. Girls represent the school in the major sports of Hockey, Netball and Tennis and enjoy inter-school Cricket and Rounders. The main boys' sports are Rugby, Football, Hockey and Cricket. In addition our children enjoy competitive Swimming, Athletics, Fencing, Judo and Archery matches. We host twelve festivals in Football, Hockey, Netball and Rugby in the first two terms for local schools and clubs as well as entering national tournaments.

Our inter-house matches are a celebration of competitive sport that see's pupils of all abilities working together to gain points for their house.

Parents are warmly welcome to attend any of our fixtures and offer support to our Prior Park teams.  

Physical Education

Weekly Physical Education lessons are taught to every pupils, from Nursery through to Year 8, and are designed to stimulate an interest and positive attitude towards physical activity through a wide variety of sporting activities that are rotated on a half-termly basis.  

Lessons cover Athletics, Gymnastics, Badminton, Basketball, Health-related Exercise, Indoor Hockey, Orienteering, Outdoor and Adventure Activities, Short Tennis, Swimming and Volleyball.

The Physical Education programme finishes with a residential trip to an activity centre on the coast. 

Clubs and Camps

Our extensive range of after school clubs compliment the main sports curriculum and include Fencing, Cross-country, Golf, Dance, Judo, Gymnastics, Archery, Tennis, Hockey, Indoor Hockey, Touch Rugby, Swimming and Athletics. 

We are proud to have developed a relationship with Cricklade Rugby and Cricket Clubs, where we have set up junior sections to provide coaching and matches on Sunday mornings. 

We also offer high quality holiday clubs enabling children to remain active during holiday time. These are led by our physical education specialists and well regarded elite coaches, the camps are excellent value for money and always well attended.  

Sporting Success

Our high standard of sport coaching, where we have specialist staff for all sports, enables children to thrive in their chosen sport outside of school and pupils gain success as county, national and international level. Our sports teams and pupils currently hold the titles for:

  • Team GB European Biathle Winner (Youth E category)
  • Severnside Cricket Tournament Champions
  • U11 Hockey Tournament Champions
  • U11 National Catholic Athletics Champions
  • England Youth Development Squad Fencer

International Sports Tours

Our school runs a yearly programme of international trips. Sports tours run every three years and provide an opportunity for every pupil in Year 6 to 8. The tours offer pupils the chance to build confidence from being independent, build communication skills through meeting new people, as well as developing cultural knowledge and enhance their sporting credentials. Past tours have included South Africa, Barbados, France, and Dubai. The next trip will be to Barbados to play Cricket and Netball, in March 2018.
