In our Creative Design and Technology Studio you will find students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders and learners of the future.
Our exciting new Creative Design and Technology suite is due to open in September 2017. There will be four exciting zones:
- Inspiration and Innovative Thought
- Animation and Film
- Design and Materials
In the Inspiration and Innovative Thought zone pupils can free their imaginations and play with their ideas.
In the Animation and Film zone children can integrate themes from many other areas of the curriculum; pupils can be superimposed onto virtual backgrounds of any place on or off the planet. They can shrink down to stand on the side of a volcano, fly through the sky to study the Sahara Desert or simply simulate their own TV weather report.
In the Design and Materials zone they can use Computer Assisted 3D Design software on their iPads to see their thoughts take shape and modify their ideas. Pupils can then go on to create a model building for a city, a pavilion or a church, a tool or a container prototype from a range of hard materials. Year 3-5 children will learn how to use 2D materials and thread to create simple material items such as door stop animals and pencil cases. Year 6-8 children learn how to use a sewing machine to create more complex designs. We will be learning about wearable technology using conductive thread and the BBC Microbit.
The final zone is for our robotics and electronics lab work using the latest iPad controlled Lego robots: 'WeDo' for Years 1-5 and 'EV3' for Years 6-8. A simple drag and drop method on iPad enables pupils to develop complex algorithms and create programs that interact with the real world. The children design, build and test robots that can carry out complex tasks, record live data, respond to environmental changes – and much more. In our innovation studio pupils will be bringing technology, science and computing to life with hands-on, project-based learning. The only limit will be imagination.
